Service Fell Far Below the Westin Standard

Liked:What should have been a simple short work stay turned into a very unpleasant experience. The property itself is well-kept, but the service fell well short of the Westin standard From check-in, the front desk felt unwelcoming, which I could have overlooked. The bigger issue was a problem with the room that needed a manager’s attention. A number of items were not properly stocked, the room simply did not feel up to Westin standards, and the poor soundproofing only made things worse. There was nonstop noise coming from the adjacent room. The associate helping me was not able to resolve it, which was understandable, but when a manager was needed, a manager named Danielle or Daniella briefly stopped by, said she was in a meeting, and promised to follow up afterward. She never did. That was the most disappointing part. It was not just the unresolved issue, but the complete lack of follow-through and accountability. At a Marriott property, especially as a Titanium member, I expected basic professionalism and some level of care. Instead, the front desk management came across as dismissive, unhelpful, and uninterested in resolving a straightforward guest concern. It is a shame, because the property itself has potential. But poor management and a lack of respect for guests made this a very unpleasant stay, and I would not return. Based on this experience, the management company appears to be failing this property, and in turn letting the Marriott and Westin brands down.

Customer Service

Liked:I would strongly recommend choosing another hotel if you’re visiting Tempe—better yet, look at properties in Scottsdale, which offer a far higher level of service. My experience with The Westin Tempe was extremely disappointing. I booked a two-night stay through Booking.com but accidentally selected May instead of April for a business trip. As soon as I realized the mistake, I contacted Booking.com and was advised that the hotel could authorize a refund. I immediately rebooked the correct April dates at the same hotel and completed a two-night stay, which made the situation even more frustrating. While the front desk staff were courteous in person, the Front Desk Manager ultimately refused to approve a refund—despite the May reservation still being weeks away and likely to be resold. As someone who works in public relations and travels extensively, I found this to be a clear example of poor customer service and inflexibility. Based on my experience—and similar feedback I’ve since seen from other guests—this appears to reflect a broader issue with how this property handles customer concerns. There are many hotels in the area that value their guests and demonstrate it through fair and reasonable policies. I would encourage travelers to consider those options instead.

Awful and Noisy Stay

Liked:Just had a very frustrating stay at The Westin Tempe. The main issue was the poor service and intolerable level of noise. As several other reviewers had pointed out, and as I sadly got to experience myself, this hotel is NOISY. There was a DJ playing nonstop loud music on the rooftop well past midnight over the weekend, and the level of disturbance was so loud and intolerable that it could be heard on different floors. My friends and I stayed on different floors, and we all heard the same noise, if you can even call that music. It was so disruptive and made it impossible to sleep after a long day. There was no courtesy notice, let alone any warning, about this kind of late-night party in advance. Had we known about it, we would have stayed elsewhere for sure. What made our experience even worse was the lack of care from management, or rather the complete absence of it. There were no senior or experienced managers available, and Danielle, the front desk manager, did not seem to care about the well-being of her guests at all. Not only was Danielle unhelpful, but instead of trying to find a solution and listening to the guests’ concerns, responding and speaking with empathy, she seemed to prefer coming across as strong and combative when all we wanted was a restful night’s sleep. I cannot understand how she was placed in a management position when she seemed more interested in arguing with guests than resolving any issue. It was so disappointing to see this kind of approach and hostile attitude from someone who serves as the face of the Westin hotel in Tempe. This really shows how much the hotel’s management cares about its guests and how this property is being run by this team. Overall, it was an awful stay. I cannot recommend this property.

Amazing hotel with great views

Liked:The Westin is excellent. This is the third time we stayed here and absolutely love it. The rooms are beautifully appointed, well laid out, roomy, and very clean. The staff is attentive and friendly. Everything is within walking distance and if you get one of the higher levels, the view is amazing, day and night. I'll add one photo of something I particularly appreciated. Instead of fix mounted against a wall, the sturdy desk/table sits on rollers, so you turn it towards the window and enjoy the view or towards the TV, while your working.
