Broken facilities and unclean

Liked:Great location. When we arrived, it was extremely hot and a staff member kindly brought us a fan.

Disliked:The room was dirty, the shutter was broken, and there were ants along the walls during the entire of our stay. The bathroom was also very dirty and was located separetaly upstairs, which was not mentioned in the listing (see pictures below). The biggest issue was the bedroom door, which was extremely difficult to open from the very beginning. The staff struggled for several minutes to open it when we arrived. We had the same problem every time we entered or left the room, until the key eventually broke in the lock due to the difficulty of operating the door. We immediately contacted a staff member, who said he had a “trick” and could fix it. After about an hour, we came back to the room and found that he had actually damaged the door further by forcing it open. We were then asked to pay 200 MAD for the repair, even though the door had been faulty since our arrival. We refused, explaining that we had not damaged anything and that the key broke while using an already dysfunctional door normally. The staff claimed the door had always worked and that nobody had ever complained about it, and that we just had « bad luck » that the key broke during our stay. We later found several online reviews mentioning the same issue. As a result, we had to sleep with a bedroom door that could not properly close. We had to leave our 100 MAD deposit to avoid further arguments (this deposit was not mentioned in the listing either). Overall, the location is good, but the poor cleanliness, broken facilities, and especially the handling of the door issue made our stay very disappointing. We would not recommend this hostel.
