Disliked:Aggressive “vacation club” sales pitch as soon as we arrived. Not enough designated smoking areas means the rest of us get to walk through smoke regularly.

Overall we would recommend staying here!

Liked:We booked Secrets, Royal Beach for our Honeymoon! We stayed for an entire week, and we had a great time! First, I’ll start with our Butler, Felix. Felix was amazing and very accommodating. He would answer every one of my messages within two minutes, even later in the evening. We upgraded to the preferred package, which includes restaurants, private beach clubs, private pools, and a butler. As far as the resort, it’s absolutely gorgeous! The quiet pool in the middle of the resort with the Bali Beds are very relaxing, and the pool that is closer to the beach is a little more upbeat, but we really enjoyed the layout! The amazing thing about the Dominican Republic is the water. It is a picture-perfect beach with turquoise water and not too much seaweed. One of our favorite workers during our stay was Santos, who cooked all the meat at the Riviera café. We had lunch there every single day and He would be there with a smile, and he remembered us every time, which made us feel very welcome. These types of employees make a very big difference in your stay. Annetti Diaz is one of the workers who cleaned all the rooms on our floor, and she did an amazing job! She’s also very sweet!

Disliked:The only place where we felt there was room for improvement was the food, and most of the servers on staff, not all. If you only care about the drinks, this is a great place to be, but not if you’re looking for delicious food. There were at least three times when we sat down at a table, and the servers tried to rush us out, eager to get to the next guest. We would sit down, and they would immediately ask what we wanted to eat, not even a hello. And when the food came, it felt like it had been sitting in a fridge, already made, for hours. (Soggy chip bowl, sushi that felt like it had been sitting in the fridge all day, and steaks that had already been cooked, then reheated) Our favorite food was the buffet because there were stations where they would cook the food fresh right in front of you! Our other favorite was the hibachi night, again, because it was prepared fresh right in front of you. I totally understand that all-inclusive resorts should have food prepared so they can accommodate how many guests they have to serve, but we’ve had much better, fresh food, from other all inclusive resorts. It’s the little things. One night we ordered a dessert and it came out within one minute and the plate as well as the entire dessert was freezing cold. It most likely sat already made, in the fridge. That would be the only negative thing for us. Most of the staff everywhere else were very friendly! The only staff I felt were lacking were some of the servers looking to push guests through the restaurant as fast as possible. Overall, we recommend booking your stay here!

Beautiful and relaxing, would stay again!

Liked:The property is beautiful, well maintained, and lots of areas for relaxation and leisure. Our butler, Warnes, was wonderful and helpful, he made our stay even more enjoyable!

Disliked:There aren’t enough chairs and shade.. had to be up at 7:30 every morning to grab two chairs by the pool

Liked:Secrets Royal Beach was beyond our expectations. We had a Preferred Club room with a private pool. The room was beautiful and housekeeping staff was extremely attentive. Our personal butler Alberto went above and beyond to make our week relaxing and wonderful. The preferred club pool areas are quiet and relaxing with wonderful staff. Fany Lux at the preferred club pool got to know us well and kept the drinks flowing with charm and amazing customer service. Sammy the bartender in the preferred club lounge greeted me with a fist bump and a smile every time I saw him and made excellent drinks. The grounds at Secrets Royal Beach are absolutely beautiful. Every corner that you turn leads to another gorgeous lawn or garden or pool. The beach is expansive and immaculate. One deterrent for the beach is that there are vendors that will walk up and try to sell you things -- very typical at every Caribbean resort we've ever stayed at, but still kind of a nuisance. Nothing to do with the hotel, of course. The food was quite good for all inclusive. We only ate at the buffet twice, because there were so many other options available. We ate at El Patio twice -- the first time the food was absolutely superb. The second time was not quite as good, though we ordered the same things, so there was a slight lack of consistency there. Himitsu was delicious. We ate a la carte rather than at the hibachi bar. Bluewater Grille was quite good as well, though the seafood was served on a hanging skewer and ended up cold. 10 out of 10 presentation, not so much for end result. Bordeaux was phenomenal. The best perk from Preferred Club was getting to eat at Oceana for breakfast. Nothing beats breakfast made to order with the ocean breeze blowing through. Preferred club was very much worth the added expense, because it gets you the extra pool areas and breakfast and lunch at Oceana, and having a personal butler like Alberto was worth every penny.
