Liked:First, I would highly recommend bringing your own sodas, $11.00 a can for a Diet Coke. Seriously?? I found my way to the local grocery store, Ralph’s quickly. What I reluctantly paid for one, I got a 12 pack. This is what truly made me never want to stay and Sand and Surf ever again. I day after I checked out I reviewed my Credit Card Statement. Hmmm… An additional charge. I had settled up my bill at time of checkout. I called to inquire, after a long pause, “You were charged for two beers from the mini bar?” Excuse me, I don’t drink. I took out the cans of beer, sparkling water and whatever else was in there to make room for my”affordable” sodas. There was one empty slot in the fridge, pardon me, I drank one silly Pip Soda. After another long pause, “We’ll credit you back on your credit card.” They honored that. So, beware of incredibly expensive soft drinks and hold the front desk accountable of what you did and did not drink. Also, $65.00 a day resort fee, for what. You can go to the pool and maybe get a chair. Very overbooked. I never enjoyed the pool because there never was accessibility to one. Also, if you want sand, forget it.

Beautiful location

Liked:Surf and Sands has certainly an advantage with its great and convenient location, right by the sea. Even though the beach almost disappears during high tide it is beautiful to be close to the sea….

Disliked:The pool is quite small and there are not enough loungers for all the guests. Most of them are therefore reserved by guest with books on them and remain empty, reminds me of a budget hotel. The staff handling the situation are mainly students, instructed by the management what to do about it (a timer) however it ends up that only 30 % of the chairs are actually used. While others are sitting on a bench… it’s overpriced for what service you receive, capitalising almost only from its location.

My all time favorite hotel!

Liked:I am a huge fan of Surf and Sand Laguna Beach. If you are an ocean lover you cannot get much closer to the beach. The sounds of the waves are mesmerizing. The views are majestic, atmosphere, cleanliness, and service are beyond amazing. Probably one of the best beach hotels in California. I cannot think of any negatives.

NO POOL ACCESS.

Liked:DISCLAIMER: this review is for the Spa only. First I want to say the spa staff were great! My wife and I had one hour couple’s massages. The massage therapists were professional and they did an excellent job. However, my gripe is with the facility itself. The location is perfect, on the pacific coast. However, you cannot see the ocean or beach from the spa. The amenities were lackluster: a small locker room, small steam room, one shower, and a gender assigned hot tub. The grounds appeared out dated and untidy. My $600 in spa services DID NOT INCLUDE POOL ACCESS! I inquired about the pool, and was advised the pool area was for hotel guests only…Prior to booking my spa appointment I was under the impression my wife and I could enjoy pool access, which has an ocean view. The massage services were incredible, however, I feel given the cost of this spa the amenities should have been better. I have spent a fraction less at other spas around the country and have had a more enjoyable experience than here at Surf and Sand.
