Love this place except the food!

Liked:Have stayed at this resort for the last 30 years, Rooms are dated but clean and in good order Beds are great! Good location if you are a diver. Beach and water are beautiful NO seaweed!! Santa Rosa Bar (in Premium section) bartenders and First Club Staff are AMAZING! Bartenders Luis, Omar, Christian, an Alfredo are excellent. First Club ladies Mayra, Diana, and Hadlt took good care of us, Only complaint this year is the food was very poor! It has never been gourmet but has always been adequate,, Not this year, The food service staff needs to get training from Allegro Playacar where the food was excellent. If you are looking for a good dive experience with Mexican dive masters and uncrowded boats call Dive Palancar, Do not dive with Pro Dive at the resort!!

Disappointing Service Despite a Beautiful Location

Liked:We recently stayed at Alegro Cozumel as a family trip (myself, my wife, and our almost 2-year-old son), and unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations. Upon arrival, after a long flight with a toddler, we were stopped at the gate because our driver (my brother) was not allowed to enter. Even after explaining he was only dropping us off and showing our reservation, we were made to wait while security confirmed permission. This created a poor first impression. Check-in was slow, and throughout our stay, the front desk service was consistently disappointing. On multiple occasions, we requested small bills for tipping and were told to come back later, only to receive different answers each time. Communication was frustrating, as staff often avoided eye contact and seemed disengaged when assisting us. Room maintenance was also an issue. The bathtub initially would not fill due to a faulty drain, and after it was fixed, the faucet itself came loose. We also experienced confusion regarding the minibar, as we received inconsistent information about what should be included and how often it is restocked. Common areas lacked service as well. The lobby had no bar service available, and when we tried to use the pool table, we were sent back and forth between staff members just to locate the balls. Eventually, we were told we needed to provide ID, despite already being registered guests wearing resort wristbands. This level of inconvenience for a simple activity was frustrating. I requested to speak with management and spoke with a supervisor named Gustavo. While he offered a room change or upgrade, I made it clear I was not looking for compensation—only for a standard level of service and respect. He assured me the feedback would be passed along, but we never received any follow-up during the remainder of our stay. The buffet experience was also underwhelming. Food options were repetitive and limited, and there was often only one staff member preparing omelettes, resulting in long wait times. Some buffet sections were closed, creating unnecessary congestion—especially difficult while navigating with a stroller. To be fair, the hotel does have positives: the beach is beautiful, and the kids’ pool was a highlight for our son. However, the overall experience was heavily impacted by poor customer service and lack of staff training. Even basic questions, such as the operating hours of the photo department, resulted in inconsistent answers from staff. In summary, while the location and family-friendly amenities have potential, significant improvements are needed—particularly in customer service, staff training, and operational consistency.

Best Beach

Liked:We go to the Playa del Carmen area often, but the sargassum has been bad for years so we decided to try and stay on Cozumel. We chose Allegro because the beach looked good and it was. Nice soft sand, plenty of beach no rocks or coral to deal with, beautiful. We got a premium suite which gave us a few perks. The room was nice and large, big bathroom, double sink, king bed, bar with mini fridge, living area, and a wrap around porch, 2 entrances. Food was ok, nothing was ever that hot, could have been better, but was plentiful and always available. Even the specialty restaurants were so so, Mexican was the best one, but it should be. Italian had a Mexican flare to it so a little different. Asian was also done different from any other hibachi table we've ever been at. Dive shop Pro Dive International was good and helpful scheduling dives and giving info. They have easy access to so many sites from there. If you schedule with another operator they can pick you up at the dock, you just have to pay a $5 dock fee for each time and person, so I just used them. Grounds are very nice and the resort is not a party place. They have some activities at the beach pool later in the morning throughout the day. There are evening activities up ate the front but they didn't bother us as we were down by the beach. If your room is up front you will hear the evening activities. If you want to go to town it's a 25 minute ride and $20 each way. The property serves Pepsi products, but there is a little market across the road from the entrance that you can get Coke products. They also sell some in the souvenir shop at 2X the price. Overall a very good stay very relaxing. Getting to Cozumel can be an ordeal if you fly into Cancun. We flew into Cozumel but the flights are limited.
