Truly great - I will be back

Liked:First - I would never normally book a hotel with low 3/5 ratings across most platforms, but the more I read, the more I felt they were just plain unfair. And I'm glad I trusted my gut. This place is great. Honestly, its hard to find a hotel anywhere nice in LA for less than 400-500, as a starting point (prices in CAD). I paid $200 for this hotel. Right there, you need to lower your expectations - you have perfect location already, so you hope for clean and quit rooms and good service. And they get top marks in those categories. The first Thursday afternoon we arrived, I thought our AC wasn't working and the room was hot. I talked to reception (this receptionist was outstanding, incredibly efficient young woman) and she was doing all she could. Promised to send maintenance to our room and look for a new room. Maintenance arrived about 30 seconds after I got back and explained how to work the AC (oops 😉, my bad). Worked perfectly. Reception called 5 minutes later to double check we were OK. The rooms have nice keurig coffee (4 pods regular, 2 decaf & 2 tea). Body wash and a shampoo/conditioner combination in shower (which I can't stand but is totally normal in hotels, unfortunately!). You're right in downtown Santa Monica - we walked to and from Venice Beach (a beautiful 44min walk) yesterday. In the evening we went to the celebrity favourite restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Malibu and walked back (43min). Or stay in downtown Santa Monica! We tried Beef and The Lobster (meh, fine - former better than the latter), around the corner. Tons of football fans (real football, not America football) staying at the hotel, because of the World Cup of Clubs (which is why we were there), but definitely not a rowdy or party atmosphere. Seriously, take a chance and ignore the silly and completely unfair reviews. You're not walking into a 5 star hotel, but it checks all the boxes, and in my view is under-priced.

Liked:One of the most cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. The front reception were kind and courteous on all interactions. Nothing was a bother to them, information was provided in a kind, courteous fashion. One downfall would be no dining on site, however, 15% off the cafe next door! Excellent central site.

End of Route 66 Adventure

Liked:We chose this hotel on family members advise and we were not disappointed. This is truly a beautiful original hotel with very very close proximity to the beach, restaurants and shopping. We were riding a motor bike and the lovely concierge lady walked and guided us across the road into a secure carpark which was very very reasonably priced. Our room was comfortable and had been renovated. The bathroom was yet to be upgraded but there was nothing wrong with it other than being a little tired. The room was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The room service team were happy to give us extra water and coffee throughout our 5 day stay. All of the staff members were extremely friendly and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. We would definitely stay here again.
