A Big Disappointment

Liked:I was very disappointed with MAXX Hotel Sanssouci because I am familiar with the Steigenberger brand and have stayed at some lovely hotels. The only good thing I can say is the location is great - walking distance from town and the beautiful Sanssouci Park. The hotel itself is very dated, and our room had an overpowering smell of bleach, it was so bad we had to buy room scent to make it bearable. Although I was offered the possibility of an upgrade before checking in, when I tried to get one, I was denied. The room was overly warm and just didn’t feel clean, and the shower dripped constantly. The parking garage was tiny, it was pay-to-park, and not available on our second night. For the price of this hotel, I absolutely would not recommend it.

Noisy room - modest breakfast

Liked:The front desk staff were nice and helpful.

Disliked:I always have a standard requests when making a booking e.g. a quiet high floor room location to sleep well etc. The staff is supposed to know their hotel rooms best, so if I am given a room at check-in, I have to trust that my request for a quiet room has been taken into account and that I will also be given the room that best meets my wishes - or that the staff will inform me at check-in that this is not the case. Besides, I have never heard of hotel guests wanting to sleep in a room that is prone to noise. Now everything went to shit. The room was not quiet - and the staff knew for sure because the source of the noise was the hotel's infrastructure, the air conditioning units or water pumps, and the rumbling sound was heard in the room at regular 5-10 minute intervals, REALLY DISTURBING. I was promised gluten-free bread for breakfast, which I did get. Unfortunately, the kitchen had skimped or was completely unprofessional when choosing gluten-free bread for their selection. The bread plate delivered to me contained rock-hard crusts that were practically worse than dog food, which I gave feedback about. Germany is the best market for gluten-free products in Europe and there are dozens of different GOOD and TASTY gluten-free breads on offer. There was also no green salad on the breakfast table. Maybe it would be worth planning the breakfast service better. The hotel room cost 165e + breakfast (16e), which is an outrageous price for an inferior, noisy room. After this experience, I will not stay here again.
