Great staff! Great location.

Disliked:Electrical sockets were loose (Rm 1205). Hard to keep chargers plugged. No “To Go” coffee cups

Loved the location, the friendly staff and the easy charm of the renovated and well-maintained 100-year old hotel.

Liked:Historic building with character. “Goldilocks” size, meaning larger than a boutique hotel (thus well staffed) but small enough to be easily negotiable and not to feel overwhelmed. Amazingly fast and responsive elevators. Friendly service and management staff (who allowed us an extra hour at check-out time). Excellent location within a short walk of Grand Central Station and several subway lines.

Disliked:Air conditioner in the sitting room (just a couple of feet from the sofa bed where one of us slept) was disturbingly noisy, but as the weather was fairly mild, we managed by simply turning it off. Sofa bed mattress wasn’t the most comfortable, but, hey, it’s a sofa bed. The mattress of the “proper” bed in the bedroom was just fine.

Brilliant hotel in a perfect location

Liked:The location of the San Carlos is fantastic! Easy to walk to lots of sights, restaurants and convenience stores etc. The staff were lovely and really helpful. Didn’t use any amenities as we were only there for a couple of nights. All in all a great hotel, large room with coffee maker, microwave, hairdryer etc., and good value for money considering where we were.

Disliked:The bed was small, a regular double but probably my own fault for not checking!
