So much less than expected

Liked:A historic hotel in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately the property is run down and the service level is average at best. Not great at problem resolution. I will not go back or recommend.

Mediocre at best

Liked:We recently stayed at Deerhurst Resort and, unfortunately, found the overall experience to be underwhelming given the price point and reputation of the property. Our room felt dated, with a distinctly 1990s cottage aesthetic and fairly bare-bones amenities. While we understand that some guests may appreciate the rustic style, the accommodations felt in need of updating. Compounding this, the air conditioning in our room was ineffective, making our stay less comfortable than expected. Dining was a mixed experience. Breakfast was enjoyable and one of the highlights of our stay, with good quality food and a decent selection. However, dinner at the resort restaurant was disappointing. The food did not meet our expectations, especially considering the very high prices, and we left feeling that the value simply wasn’t there. Throughout our stay, both the service and facilities were adequate but not exceptional. The resort seemed to be operating in an “off-season” mode, with limited energy, atmosphere, and attention to detail. Staff were polite, but the overall guest experience felt somewhat lacklustre. While Deerhurst’s location and natural surroundings are beautiful, the accommodations, dining, and overall level of service did not justify the cost of our stay. We left feeling disappointed and unlikely to return without significant improvements

Beautiful setting with great amenities... but watch out for automatic tipping!

Liked:Beautiful setting on the lake! Good to see that there are renos currently happening as the resort is looking a little tired in places but our room on the lake was lovely. The roads and parking lot closest to the food truck/water are in rough shape. There are many great amenities and things to do, rain or shine. We had a lovely time but our biggest complaint was that the staff in 3 different bars on the resort were tipping themselves 20% before handing over the payment terminal to us. We had gone up to the bar - the staff were not serving us at a table, in any location. When we called them out on it, they claimed that it was part of the conference contract, which I don't think is acceptable or appropriate...or even true/legal??? Even if this was true, my husband and I purchasing drinks at thew bar for our personal consumption, should not be subjected to an automatic 20% tip without any notification. We ended up buying our own beverages from the LCBO and no longer drinking from/at the bar, as did others attending the same conference.

Value for money

Liked:It’s a good place to connect to nature, lots of activities to do. Indoor and outdoor pools are fabulous. Staff is courteous and respectful and friendly. Ideal location. One should try driving north bay from here for awesome road trips and scenery.
