Check-In Information: Please provide an estimated time of arrival, using the comments field when making your reservation. The Gifford is a self-service guest house with no staff on site. All guests must check in independently using our electronic self check-in kiosk. Check-in is available from 15:00 onwards. The latest check-in time is 18:00, except by prior arrangement. By prior arrangement with Gifford House, check-in is available up until 23:00. If you are wish to arrange a later check-in, please contact reception in advance using the contact details supplied on your confirmation email.This property does not accommodate bachelor(ette) or similar parties. Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply.

One night in a small room on an uncomfortable bed.

Liked:Well decorated Spotlessly clean Good location for south side of city centre.

Disliked:The booking.com website did not make clear that this is a self service hotel, i.e. no staff on site. No breakfast of any kind. I could touch opposite walls of the room with my outstretched arms, it was tiny for a double room. Small bed with soft mattress.

Disliked:The Gifford: Would we stay at “The Gifford again? Answer: Not only “NO!”, but “ HELL NO!!!!!!!” Ratings: 1 Horrible (We would give it a “ZERO!!!!!!!” Why? Pro’s: Pretty wall paper Con’s: Parking was a nightmare, very little instructions for guest parking No human interaction. A tablet was in the front hallway to check in and instructions were lacking - they tried to up $ charge the room to a different room which deviated from the original price - they required a 100 pound security deposit (no telling when and if we will get that back) in case of theft or damage (we are an older couple and both Veterans…we think it was safe that we were not going to damage nor steal anything they had…very insulting) Upon entering the room #6 there was a stench emanating/wteaking from the bathroom (it was apparent that they did not prepare or clean the room for guest! the room was apparently converted from a broom closet to a guest bedroom, it was extremely tiny - the width of the room was approximately 6.5 feet wide - the bathroom width was approximately not quite 3 feet. - the toilet was not clean, and did not flush properly - when we flushed the toilet the pipes rattled in the walls - The towels wreaked of stench of body odor!!!!!!! I did not use their towels after taking a shower I used the hair dryer to try and dry myself. In fact the hair dryer was full of lent and not clean. The bed was hard as a rock (it would have been softer to lay on plywood!) - the pillows, sheets, blanket wreaked of stench of body odor (I could not rest it smelled so bad!). We had to open the window to let fresh air in so we could try and sleep. We highly recommend properly washing and refreshing the pillows, sheets, blankets, and towels!!!!!!! The road noise added to the nightmare! So why did we not walk back out? Answer: we were exhausted from a wonderful traveling in Scotland as we enjoyed so many beautiful sites.

Disliked:The bedroom itself was already small but made to feel even smaller with the decorations hanging on all walls, it made getting into bed feel like an obstacle course worried you might knock something over

The room was as warm and inviting as the people of Edinburgh!

Liked:It was very easy to check in, and my friends and I felt very safe. The room was by far the nicest we’ve had on our UK trip, and we loved the little tea cakes on our pillows! The views were fantastic and it was a short bus ride from everything.

Disliked:It was amazing through and through!
