Filthy facilities, warm and cold service, but good location

Liked:The location is ideal as is situated right on the beach with easy and direct access from hotel blocks through the hotel grounds and beach club, and within 2 minutes from of some great restaurants and cafes from the hotel entrance - shout out to Cafe de Bang Tao. Our check-in at approx 10:30am was relatively smooth but ended tiring as we requested a possible early room check-in upon arrival due to long travel hours and hot temperatures to rest and freshen up, and was assured the reception and housekeeping were working to ready a room ASAP. However, we were disappointed to learn a room wasn’t available until much closer to the actual check-in time at 3pm. We had booked a double bed but were placed into a twin room - we didn’t raise this with reception due to tiredness and didn’t feel comfortable doing so from our initial check-in process. The room itself was large and spacious with great air conditioning and plenty of room for storage luggage, and clothing in the wardrobe etc, including good space in the bathroom. We found the room to be slightly poorly lit as there weren’t enough main or central lights on the ceiling in bed and bathroom. The rooms were clean however the rest of the facilities being questionable including the pool with visible layers of green and brown grime on the pool floor and walls, as well as the seats at the pool swim-up bar. There were also many children’s paddlers in the pool which almost all had a layer of brown grime on the bottom, always being submerged in the pool water. Good variety and amount of food and breakfast, however I wouldn’t recommend eating from the food pots from outside as there were ants crawling on the tables near the tong handles and the drinks station, and small birds freely fly around and above here. Very shortly after breakfast on day 3-4, I became very unwell with upset stomach, being sick and cold sweats, and had to stay in the room to rest for the next 2 days to recover - this was after only sticking to the indoor food selection throughout the stay. We ordered room service food for classic Thai which was very delicious though, and was delivered by friendly staff each time. We found overall service very much depended on individual staff members you interacted with including reception refusing us toilet roll when we had none left because we didn’t want our room cleaned earlier that day (apparently this conflicted with their environmental scheme), our initial check-in experience, and our final check-out experience involved reception calling up to the room to see if we had left anything, and was instructed to take a seat in the lobby for them to do this. We had waited close to 40 minutes whilst the same reception kept glancing at us, failing to communicate anything or notifying us until we had went up and was told they had confirmed this 5 minutes after checking out. Service from breakfast staff was very friendly, however other staff in the beach club and pool bar came across rather distant. I would highly recommend against booking this hotel and would not consider returning as overall service left a very sour taste and didn’t feel totally welcome along with unhygienic practices, despite the good location and various food options.

The hotel with potential

Liked:The best thing about this hotel is definitely its location – it’s close to everything, and the rooms are decent. Unfortunately, from there it goes steeply downhill. The pool area is in very poor condition. It is extremely worn, with clearly missing tiles, large cracks, and visible signs of mold around the drains, many of which are also broken. In the larger pool (around 120 cm deep), you can barely see the bottom because the water is so unclear and dirty. During our 14-day stay, we did not see any maintenance of the pool area at all – no cleaning and no visible addition of chemicals. No matter where you are in the pool, you cannot feel any water circulation, which makes it seem like the pump system is not functioning properly or is insufficient for such a large pool. Overall, the level of service from the staff is far below what you would normally expect in Thailand. There is very little effort to create a welcoming atmosphere, and the service is minimal at best. The breakfast is also far below the usual Thai standard – honestly quite disappointing. Would I return? Yes, to Bangtao – absolutely. But never to this hotel again. It is simply not good enough. There is a clear lack of ownership and care for the property, and they are not making use of the great potential and setting they actually have. The atmosphere and overall experience are just not there.
