A Great Hotel Unfortunately Tainted by the Actions of One Bad Manager!

Liked:This is a tricky review as the property itself is amazing & was in an ideal location close to the beach. We booked the Howler suite which is apparently the best View in the Hotel & it did not disappoint as we were so looking forward to 5 days of paradise & uninterrupted peace & relaxation. But unfortunately this was not the case! The food was good (except for the last night) and most of the staff are lovely & very helpful, especially the receptionist Deanna & the other girl (can’t remember her name) who went out of their way to help us on many occasions. But unfortunately one member of staff (they called him Jeffrey) who I believe was a manager, went out of his way to make our stay as uncomfortable as possible, which has left a slightly sour taste in our mouth & has unfortunately reflected in the score and in our review, as his actions have affected our opinions greatly on our experience of the Hotel in general! Because without his bad attitude we would have scored a lot higher, but had to be honest about how his behavior may affect future guests & their experiences too! It’s a shame really, as his behavior lets the whole Hotel down as he is the weakest link in this operation, because without him this place would be amazing! We spent a lot of money in this place, staying in the best room, and on tips for staff & on food & drinks so did not expect such bad manners from a high ranking member of staff! We don’t know what we did to receive such bad treatment But we weren’t the only ones! We noticed he seemed to pick out a few guests he didn’t like & did his best to make us feel unwelcome & uncomfortable! Which is extremely unprofessional & very poor Management skills! Because no matter what his personal opinion is of us, his job is to make sure our stay & our experience is as comfortable & pleasant as possible no matter what he thinks!
Disliked:Bad Management from one particular member of staff who we believe is a Manager called Jeffrey, who went out of his way to make our stay as unpleasant as possible! Very poor management skills & lack of professionalism & hospitality experience & basic social skills, reflects in his attitude & behavior towards paying guests especially high paying guests! It Lets the Hotel down in a big way, as our bad experience of his behavior will be shouted from the rooftops! I run a very successful beauty business is London & deal with people every day, and if I treated any of my clients the way he treated us I would have no business at all! I also deal with very rich, high ranking business people, celebrities, musicians, politicians & even Royalty & I will make sure all of them know what sort of experience I had & how we was treated by this individual! It’s such a shame as the Hotel itself is amazing & most of the other members of staff were lovely but unfortunately our experience was tainted by his bad attitude! Also there is no air con! We had a roof fan, but for the best room/ best view in the hotel, they should maybe invest in air con! Also the drinks were not always what they seemed! We don’t know if it was the Jeffrey situation intervening, but for the first couple of days the drinks were great, but then after that we noticed our cocktails did not have alcohol in them even tho we were paying for it! If you sat at the bar & watched then they were ok but if we ordered drinks at the beach then they did not have alcohol in them! I’m not a big drinker, but like a cocktail on holiday, so I can taste even the smallest amount of alcohol & ours did not taste of it at all! There was an American guy in the beach one day who we overheard sending a drink back because it had No alcohol in it, & when I spoke to him & told him our experience he said it happens sometimes!

Great beachfront location, worth a stay in Puerto Viejo.

Liked:Hotel located in Playa Negra which is perfect. You can walk around 25mim or take tuk tuk/taxi for the centre . The restaurant was nice and had some good options for breakfast ,lunch/dinner. We stayed in Howler suite and the view was amazing. Probably best room there. Special thanks to Laura that’s working in the restaurant. She was always smile and happy to help.
Disliked:Rooms need some maintenance. We gave some clothes for wash to cleaning services and two t-shirts came back with bleach on them. Staff need to be more careful.
