An excellent hostel experience in Banff

Liked:It's in a lovely elevated setting, in a quiet neighbourhood, with views of the mountains that surround Banff. There is a cafe serving food all day and you can sit out on the balcony with your morning coffee and admire the view. The spacious lounge area in the adjacent block where (I think) many of the rooms are has a nice alpine lodge vibe going on. Lots of comfy chairs, and a terrace where you can sit out and read and (again) look at the mountains. The staff were friendly and laid back, and happy to give information. There was a good sized carpark and I had no problem finding a space. I was issued with a transportation card so I could use the buses for free (handy, because it is a 25 minute walk downtown - although a pleasant one). Buses are frequent and leave from very close to the hostel, dropping you downtown. I was very happy to be located where I was, in this quiet part of Banff, rather than downtown. For a hostel, the rooms are not too spartan and everything was well furbished.

Disliked:The bed is a little on the hard side, but fairly normal for a hostel. I stayed in Banff in early August when many places were booked and charging a fortune. The hostel was much cheaper than everywhere else, but still on the pricier side for a hostel I guess. I thought there could have been some kind of free breakfast thrown in for the price.

Liked:The hostel is well maintained and clean. The kitchen is large, well equipped and has ample storage and fridge space. Access and parking is easy assuming you don't arrive too late.

Disliked:Not a major con but the hostel is located about 20-30 minute walk from the downtown area, up a hill. While you get free passes for the local transit, buses happen to fill up and are not very frequent (walking can be quicker than waiting for the next bus).
