Disappointing experience and concerning handling of guest privacy

Liked:I stayed here for a business trip and unfortunately had a disappointing experience from both a customer service and guest privacy standpoint. I booked using an official negotiated event rate link and initially received confirmation reflecting the negotiated rate. However, at check-in I discovered the reservation had been changed to a significantly higher “Best Available Rate.” During discussions with the hotel, I was also able to see lower-priced rooms and availability on Hilton’s own website, which made the situation even more confusing and frustrating. After extensive back-and-forth communication, the hotel eventually partially adjusted the rate as a “gesture of goodwill,” but resolving the issue consumed an unnecessary amount of time during an international business trip. There were also several shortcomings with the room itself that were not reflected accurately in the listing. My executive room did not contain a desk despite room photos showing desks, which is a notable issue for business travelers. The room was also uncomfortably cold throughout my stay. The climate control system only allowed adjustments of +/-3°C without indicating the actual baseline temperature, and even setting it to the maximum warmer setting made little noticeable difference. In addition, the windows in the room started at approximately chest height, requiring me to stand on a chair just to look outside. The “view” was essentially a metal mesh barrier/wall structure directly outside the window, which made the room feel even more closed in and uninviting. The most concerning part occurred after I posted an anonymous TripAdvisor review describing my experience. Although my TripAdvisor account contained no identifying information, the hotel publicly responded using my last name, meaning my identity had been matched through internal reservation records and disclosed publicly without my consent. After I raised concerns regarding this issue and copied Hilton privacy/data protection contacts, the hotel removed the public response entirely. I was also contacted directly by hotel staff asking me to remove my review because they disagreed with my characterization of MY OWN experience. Overall, this was not the level of professionalism, transparency, comfort, or guest handling I expect from a Hilton property catering to business travelers.

A very pleasant experience.

Liked:We have stayed at this hotel before, but we particularly like the luxury rooms. Beautifully decorated, spacious, quiet, and a pleasant temperature. Excellent beds and quality linens. The bathroom is spacious and equipped with every convenience. The shower could benefit from being fitted with a grab bar to hold onto. This is especially useful for the elderly, even though the shower floor is non-slip. We also prefer a real bar of soap over bottles of shower gel. That was our only point of criticism. We would love to return to this lovely, centrally located hotel.

Great choice if in Antwerp

Liked:Stayed 2 nights at the Hilton Old town while in Antwerp and had a great time there. The location is super, right in the middle of everything in Groenplaats opposite the Cathedral of Our Lady and most sights are a short walk away. Checkin was quick and allocated a room on the third floor which had a view of the square. The suite was very spacious and inviting. As with other reviews the furniture is a little dated and scuffed but everything was clean and usable. The bed was very comfortable, the AC was easy to use and the wifi was strong. Ice machine was on each floor and there was a small fridge to store any soda or wine in the room too. The bathroom was a good size, plenty of counter space with good lighting. Separate shower and bath tub with soap and shampoo dispensers nearby. The towels were lovely and soft and the whole room felt very peaceful, you did not hear any noise. Breakfast was included in my rate and it was first class. Great choice of cooked items ( especially the potato rosti) fried eggs, scrambled or order an omelet from your server. The cold meats and salmon selections were excellent as was the choice of breads and pastries. You can also order a mimosa if you wish. The coffee machine was very easy to use too. There was also fruits and salad, a great start to your day. The room also included access to the executive lounge on the 5th floor which was open from 0800 to 2000 every day with happy hour between 17.00 and 19.00. There was a full bar with spirits, local & international beers and wine. There was also some food laid on which was different on both days. The space was light and airy and never got too busy so it was a nice spot to have a drink and a few nibbles and a day sightseeing. If you intend to sight see I would recommend getting the Antwerp card as it includes free travel and pays for itself after visiting a few attractions - visiting the cathedral costs €12 so you get the idea, you also get a trip on the tourist train which is a good way of orienteering yourself and seeing the city. I really enjoyed my stay at the Hilton Old town Antwerp and would not hesitate to stay there again !
