Liked:It was so convenient to everything I needed

Disliked:No coffee earlier than 7. I get up early. There needs to be a message in the laundry room to stay with clothes in the washer and dryer until finished. I waited 45 minutes and still didn’t get to wash my clothes.

Need a Good Value Stay at a Modest But Decent Hotel in the Vicinity of Vancouver Wonders?

Liked:The room was clean and accommodating, befitting a single traveler needing a place to rest and leave his stuff while out exploring Vancouver a day and a half before his cruise. It was a small room (remniscient of a boarding school dormitory) with space to move around was just the thing I needed, and I got a very good price for what the room offered: a single bed that was slightly firm (though I had no difficulty falling asleep), a sink and mirror with plenty of soap and towels, a writing desk, an accessible window with a view (accessible enough to let in air) and a decent-sized closet. What I found personally charming was that my room came with a key……not a card to scan, but an actual key. The staff was very professional and accommodating. They were also helpful in pointing out good spots to eat and drink. I even witnessed the staff accommodating a large party of travelers who seemingly arrived early; the staff swiftly and diligently helped the travelers in storing their multitudes of luggage, with no impression of stress or discomfort. Again, a very well trained staff. Needless to say, the hotel restaurant— the Fable Diner— was superb, offering excellent brews, impressive patatas bravas (and I’ve had several in Spain), and one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had (it’s called What the Duck?). The hotel is right across an apparently popular breakfast place, based on the lines of people waiting to get in, yet I found a charming cafe about 5-10 minutes on foot down the street called Kafka, of which their brews are an excellent way to start you day. Yes, the hotel does offer coffee as well. There is also a supermarket across the street, down at the corner (3 minutes or less on foot), and on that same street round the corner, you have very good eateries offering cheese steak sandwiches (Crave Cheesesteaks), chicken tikka wraps (Rollzzy), and even a fusion of hot dogs and Japanese food (Japadog).

Disliked:My only note is that my room had no toilet— that there was a bathroom with toilet and shower than had to be shared by other tenants on the same floor with similar rooms. It must have been part of the building’s previous structure, but needing to go to a bathroom down the hall, hoping someone is not using it (or worse, someone already used it and kept the door closed, giving the impression that someone it using it) is bit of an inconvenience. Still it does not greatly deter my memory of the overall comfort I had at the hotel.
