Perfect to visit NYC on a budget

Liked:The apartment is old and quirky in the most charming way, and you can definitely tell that the owners are artists. It’s located about a 10–15 minute walk from the ferry terminal, which makes it a very convenient option for anyone looking to visit New York on a budget. The entire journey from the apartment to the main attractions in Manhattan takes around an hour, but considering the incredible price of the accommodation, it’s absolutely worth it. The bed is incredibly soft and comfortable, and both the AC and the fan help keep the room at a pleasant temperature. Paul is a wonderful host, friendly, talkative, and always available to help with anything his guests might need.

Disliked:I wouldn’t say that the place is dirty, but it would definitely benefit from a thorough deep clean, especially in the corners, where there was quite a bit of accumulated dust. The kitchen was great overall, although it would have been nice to have a better selection of pots and pans. The only pan we could find was very large, which wasn’t particularly practical for just the two of us. We also couldn’t find any proper drinking glasses, so we ended up using mugs for water. It’s also worth keeping in mind that the apartment is located uphill, so the walk back from the ferry can be a little tiring, especially after a long day in Manhattan. One thing we found a bit uncomfortable was that our bedroom door couldn’t be locked from the inside: it wasn’t a matter of not trusting Paul, but knowing that the door couldn’t be secured while we were sleeping didn’t feel particularly reassuring.

Liked:It is very close to the Staten Island ferry so that is great! I showed up at 1 AM since I had a flight delay and my host waited up and was very accommodating. I did hear another guest once but it seemed quiet in the house. Host lives downstairs.

Disliked:This place met my needs since there is just not much available in this area. However, it really needs a DEEP clean and it is just worn out. Bed had dips where people sleep (very soft), the two soft chairs in the room sunk down and were uncomfortable, stains on the carpet, stove was dirty (yes there is a kitchenette), towels stiff and thin and look old, etc. Glad I brought my sound machine for the traffic noise since it is on a intersection that is busy in the morning (there is a High School very close by). With some paint, cleaning and updating of furniture this could be an awesome place because the location is great!
