Good hotel in convenient location

Liked:This is a large hotel with a couple of wings: I had a King room at the back, with a small balcony overlooking Kenny's Pond, which was lovely to look out on, and didn't get any traffic noise or noise from other rooms. The room itself was clean and comfortable and had all the amenities you'd expect. The bathroom was very small, but was clean and seemed recently renovated, and had shampoo, conditioner and shower gels. The wash basin area outside the bathroom was bright and well lit, with plenty of fresh towels. A couple of things to be aware of: As there are a couple of entrances, with reception in the middle, some way from both of the main doors, find out where your room is first and then park at the entrance closest to your room for easier transportation of luggage. Also, the main front entrance does have a sign saying no smoking within so many metres, but the smoking area is literally right outside so you do have to go through the smoke to get in to the hotel. And, East Side Marios is attached to the hotel for dinner and breakfast, but you have to walk through the restaurant to get to the front for a table, and there was a really long wait for a table for dinner. Some building / renovation work was going on during the day (I think 9-6). It's a really convenient location for the airport (5-10 minute drive), and only a short drive to Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill or downtown, so overall a good hotel in a great location if you're exploring St John's and the surrounding area. Would happily stay here again.

Terrible hotel!!! Save your money and stay elsewhere.

Liked:This was a terrible hotel experience for my family. I don’t even know where to start… First off the staff do not seem to care at all about the guest experience. We had to ask numerous times to get pillows and blankets for pull out sofa. (The staff was very standoffish when asked). The internet doesn’t work well in the rooms (I think ours was just a wifi booster going off another rooms connection down the hall). The gym and pool area temperature is like a sauna. Pricing was outragoues for what I would consider a 2 star hotel. Save your money and stay elsewhere in St. John’s

Poorly Manager Hotel

Liked:I had booked rooms back in April. Request adjoining rooms with a door between the room inside the rooms. Was told I would have to upgrade to King suites as those were the only rooms they had that they could accommodate the request. When I arrived, I was told they do not have adjoining room at this hotel. I did get 2 rooms with king beds, and the hotel did reduce the price to a queen room. The excuses for this were they had a bunch of "new employees". I found a number of issues with the room I had (318) from poor quality bath towels, electrical plugs and USB ports that did not work. A broken shelf in the shower. Scuff marks on the walls giving the room a dirty appearance. I stay in hotels for business frequently, so I understand and can accept that the quality of the room did not match the top leave price it was for a couple nights and I could simply advise the front desk of the issues so they could rectify the problem for the next guest. Along with advising the front desk of the issues, also left detailed instructions that my GF and her 6 year old were currently sleeping in the room and were not to be disturbed. I clearly told the front Desk person that the issues could wait until we checked out the following day. This was mentioned to the receptionist 3 times. I had also put out the do not disturb sign. This was about 7 AM. I left the hotel so my GF and her son could get some sleep after flying all night. Around 9:30 AM I received a call from my GF wondering why some strange man was knocking on the door. It turned out to be the Maintenace man who wanted to get into the room and fix the problems that I had advised the front desk of. My GF tried to explain to him that she had just woken up and knew nothing of the issues as I had not informed her. The Maintenace man continued to go on about the repair request he had requesting access to the room before I told him he needs to leave and a not so nice manner. When I returned to the hotel a few minutes later I asked for the Manage to call me. Several hours later the Sales Director called me to enquire what the issue was. When I explained the issue and said the maintenance man was acting like a meat head, she took the opportunity to go on a little tirade of how we I will not call their employees names while talking down to me. She then doubled down on the "new employee" excuse again. I did ask if the maintenace man was a new employee and she told me no. I also asked if the person at the front counter was new and again was told no. When I told her that the do not disturb sign was on the door before I left and was still there when I arrived back to an upset GF I was told that those sometimes get left on by accident so we don't always pay attention to them, The conversation ended by the Director of Sales telling me that she would get the employees side of the story. I have never heard back, nor have we received an apology for what I would consider complete incompetence from the Director down. My advice, continue up the block to the Best Western.
