Best hotel in Shanghai 🩷🩷🩷🩷

Liked:What a beautiful art deco boutique hotel right in the heart of Shanghai, an incredible find. The rooms are large , very comfortable beds and beautiful decor. The staff went to so much trouble in every aspect. We had a week here. I am dairy and gluten intolerant and the chef even made me a loaf of bread that I could eat. Incredible! I dropped my phone outside the hotel after leaving a taxi only discovering it was lost an hour later. It was gone. After many hours of looking I realised that was it. The next day Ray , the hotel staff conserve, went above and beyond to help me. Contacting Police , using find my phone etc and eventually checked CCTV cameras outside the hotel. He found a cleaner from the streets had picked it up , tracked the cleaner down and negotiated a payment for me to get it back . A miracle! Ray also organised a fabulous day trip to a water town for us. He really went above and beyond the call of duty. What a great hotel!

Stay in style in Shanghai

Liked:Beutifully restored colonial style building with all the comfort and luxury you want from a stay in Shanghai. Comfortable, spacious room, large bathroom, huge bed. Everything is very clean. Staff is courteous, attentive and we could always find someone who could speak English (you cannot take this for granted in China). It is fairly close to the Bund (20-25 min walk). We were allowed to check out one hour later for no extra charge.

Disliked:On our last day we asked the reception whether it was possible to take a shower somewhere (e.g. in the fitness centre) as we had a flight late in the evening (you really get sweaty in the August Shanghai weather). It was not possible and no feasible solution was offered. I guess we could have booked our room for one more night (?) The bed was a bit too soft for my taste. (First world problems... :)
