Cosy cabin with fantastic view and geothermal hot tub

Liked:The location was fabulous, the property looks out over the valley and on a clear day you can see the snow covered peaks of Hekla, Tindfjallajokull and Eyjafjallajokull in the distance. You can see the main road of the golden circle below in the valley (including the tour busses) but in general it is very quiet. There is only 1 other house on this road, before you get to this one, though hikers and horses can come by. The property is well furnished and the hot tub is amazing: it is filled with running geothermal waters so no need for cleaning chemicals like stand-alone hot tubs generally have. The kitchen was well supplied and there are board games and books (Icelandic, English, German) in the house. The separate annex with double bed and a bathroom is good for a little separation, e.g. for elderly relatives or the parents. It does require crossing to the main house outdoors, on what can be a wet patio.

Disliked:Just a few things could be improved: the lighting above the cooking facility did not work, a reading lamp next to the sofa would have been nice and the kettle did not switch off automatically which means we had to unplug it to stop it. A bedside lamp in a side room did not provide enough light to read by, and we missed a bird book of Iceland. The loft room (twin beds) does not have standing height, not even for older children, nor does it have a door but it has a curtain to keep out the light. Our teenager loved this space though :-). Be aware that there are stairs leading up to the property, and we did not find any hiking trails starting near the cottage, nor any map of such local trails. Hiking is possible in the vicinity though and Geysir is only 10 minutes by car (Gullfoss 20 minutes, the Brurafoss hike is also nice and very near). These are small things and I would happily stay here again.

Liked:We really loved this place! The cabin had everything needed for a comfortable stay. It was especially nice to have a barbecue and a hot outdoor tub. The location is very convenient - close to Þingvellir National Park, Brúarfoss, Gullfoss, and the Haukadalur Valley with its geysers. The host was very friendly and always available. Thank you - we truly enjoyed our stay!
