Thoughtfully designed boutique hotel with excellent staff.

Liked:Torel Palace is a beautiful hotel and the staff are exceptional. Little things made a difference during our stay. The reception staff is especially attentive to the guests. They booked our Douro Valley wine tour which was top notch, provided dinner recommendations and made our reservations, booked reliable early morning transport to the airport, and provided us to-go breakfast boxes. This is just a few of the things that made a difference during our stay. I traveled with a group of ladies and we stayed in the new rooms directly across the street. They are spacious with a kitchenette and small table and chair. At first, I wasn’t sure about staying across the street, but the rooms were brand new and very secure so we always felt safe. It also has a lovely secret garden area that was a great surprise. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and I would ask to stay in this building. The breakfast was included at this hotel with our package and it was wonderful. They have a great casual bar for night time cocktails and wonderful restaurant on property. Our entire group loved staying at Torel Palace Hotel and would highly recommend it.

Disliked:The rooms have adequate storage, but a few extra hooks in the narrow wall cabinets would have been helpful. We stashed shoes in these, but the space could have been maximized with some small modifications to store accessories or hang single outfits.

Excellent stay in Porto

Liked:Beautiful property, room extremely well appointed - exceptional staff. Restaurant on premises is extraordinary . Pool small but very refreshing. Our balcony was spectacular.

Disliked:Door for building across the street does not necessarily close well, if guests aren’t careful they can leave it open. One evening we did not get turn down service.

A beautiful environment, with fantastic staff, in which to discover Porto

Liked:The Torel Palace is indeed exceptional. The bedrooms and all the communal areas are beautifully and tastefully decorated. The location is convenient for central Porto (Baixa) and also for getting to Ribeiro. The breakfast was excellent. But the best thing about it is the staff. They are so welcoming and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. They make you feel truly special.

Disliked:The only flaws in our stay were that the first room we stayed in (the apartment called Maria Teresa Horta) was not very dark, and both of us find it difficult to sleep in that kind of environment. It's also a very strangely designed apartment: the bedroom includes an enormous kitchen area, but it contained no cooking equipment and hardly any crockery. We didn't want to cook there, but it seemed like a waste of space, especially as the bathroom is very small and rather cramped. Also the only wardrobe was in the upstairs, sofa-bed area, not in the main bedroom. Personally I would have suggested reducing the kitchen area and making the bathroom much bigger, or even including two small bathrooms, since the apartment sleeps four. The second apartment we stayed in (No. 33) was much better designed and also darker and quieter, although, again, it has only one bathroom despite sleeping four people. My only reservation about apartment 33 was that some of the kitchen equipment started flashing in the night, rather like disco strobe lights, which woke me up (I was sleeping on the sofa bed, which, in No. 33, is in the living/kitchen area). I would recommend unplugging all equipment before going to bed on the sofa bed!
