Disgusting all round, do not stay at any CDS hotel

Disliked:Where to start? They advertise an outdoor pool, spa and gym. When we arrived I asked about it, and I was informed that the outdoor pool was not in use, or the gym. The spa and indoor pool come at an extra price. So false advertisement lead me to book this hotel. When I complained that this hotel did not deliver what it advertised, I was instructed to move to another hotel in the same chain. This is 8pm at night. I had to drive myself to this other hotel over an hour away at night, somewhere I’ve never been to, on my first day of my holiday, in my own transport. When we arrived at this other hotel (CDS hotels Terrasini - citta del mare) we were shocked. It was an extremely large hotel, clearly aimed at families and large parties. It was loud, busy and overwhelming. We arrived around 9pm and were told we could not check in yet and were sent for food. The food was a ‘buffet’ style and it was shocking. In the original hotel we were supposed to have three course personal dining. The food at this buffet was awful, the options were bad, nothing looked fresh, the food was literally sweating it had been out in the heat. I asked about vegetarian options and was told I had to have whatever was out. I had bread for food that night. We were checked into our room about 9:30 pm. The standard of room was not similar to what we booked at all. It was relatively clean, but basic. However the bed was completely broken underneath, the wooden slats did not fit the frame and I almost fell through it. I had to sleep on my partners side of the bed. The hotel was extremely loud, we were right at the back, nearest to the car park, and we could still hear all the entertainment. They played music until around 1am, people shouting, singing, screaming till late at night it was awful. The next morning we wanted to check out. I spoke to an activities co ordinator as she told me all managerial staff were off for a few days due to a public holiday.

Enjoyable stay

Liked:Very helpful and welcoming staff at reception and in the dining area. Flexibility on checking out time which we really appreciated. Fantastic breakfast spread. We also had the set dinner menu the night before which we thought was excellent value and beautifully cooked and served. Prosecco with meal good price as were drinks and snacks from the bar in the lounge area. Brilliantly located for exploring Mazzara del Vallo which we loved.

Disliked:The grounds did not compare well with the hotel itself. I assume as the hotel was not busy there is not sufficient income for gardening and outside maintenance - this may be different in high season? The swimming pool area wasn't open - as the weather was poor the two days we stayed this did not matter

We would come back for the spa.

Liked:The spa was absolutely fantastic. The property was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious.

Disliked:There were fires outside and there was no air conditioning, so the night started off rough, but improved when the fires died down.

Fantastic stay!

Liked:Fantastic accomodation! - Resort is huge - Rooms are very luxurious - Big swimming pool - Very friendly personnel - Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choices, great quality - Dinner was okay but not as high standards as breakfast imo Great value for money, highly recommended!!! Would definitely go back :-)

Disliked:You can't access the pool without a swimming cap (as is the case in other hotels as well in Sicily we noticed, however not always mandatory). It's a minor complaint, however important to mention if people don't like these types of obligations (and probably also has it's advantages in terms of hygiene, however personally i'm not fond of it).
