Better have a car, beach is gone

Liked:We have been coming here for a number of years and have always enjoyed our trip. Starting last year the sargassum took over the beach. It was much worse this year. Even though a guy with a tractor makes a valiant effort every morning to clean up the mess, it continues to accumulate. The week we have been here, there has been no effort to set up the beach chairs etc because of the mess. According to the staff, guests are way down because of it. If you are interested in beach and beach activities, you are going to have to go elsewhere. Very sad because the staff is very nice. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Bug Infestation - Hotel refused to fix

Liked:Our room at Oyster Bay Beach Resort was infested with ants at check-in. Management acknowledged the infestation in writing — their proposed fix was to spray chemicals in the room and have us keep staying in it. We left the same day. The manager verbally agreed we could leave with a refund, then later refused, offering only 50% because we "chose not to stay" in an infested room. We've spent days trying to resolve this through our travel agent and Expedia with no cooperation. Photos and email documentation of everything. If something goes wrong with your room here, don't expect the property to make it right.

Relax, Reflect and Reset....

Liked:The resort is clean and well maintained. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay that much more enjoyable. Wanda at the pool kept us fed and hydrated. Pepper at the activities desk kept us entertained all week long. We ate in all 3 restaurants on site. We found the food far better on site then any restaurant we went to off site. I highly recommend eating at the resort restaurants. Definitely a place where i will go back to....

Oyster Bay beach resort is shabby and the management is either uncaring or incompetent.

Liked:I specifically asked for a great ocean view (twice, once in the booking notes and once with a phone call), and I got a room with a tiny view. Twice I requested that we be moved and twice was told there were no other rooms. I find this very unlikely as it was not high season and there was nothing on the island that was full. I went to the concierge desk twice. Once to arrange a private sailboat charter and once to get information about the ferry to Pinel island. They were NO help either time. The room was rather shabby. There were little bugs in the kitchen. The tub was not properly installed so it flexed every time you got in it. The tub/shower faucet dripped all the time. There were drywall repairs that were incredibly amateur. So, while we loved the island and had a great time it was in spite of the resort. Finally, there was some sort of time share scam in process. The bellman was great and the little store the Veranda was great. Needless to say we will not go back to the resort.
