Disliked:I stayed at this hotel for several nights and unfortunately my overall experience did not meet the standards I would expect from a five-star property. First, I frequently experienced itching while sleeping, which made me question the condition of the bedding. Second, I often observed restaurant staff speaking among themselves in Portuguese while standing near international guests. While I understand that staff naturally communicate in their native language, the manner and timing of these conversations made me feel uncomfortable as a guest. Most concerning was my experience at the breakfast omelet station. I initially thought it might be an isolated incident, but after observing interactions over three consecutive days, I noticed what appeared to be a consistent pattern of noticeably different treatment toward Asian guests. This left me with the impression that there may be bias in the way some guests are treated. My arrival experience was also disappointing. I arrived early and politely explained my travel condition while asking whether an early check-in might be possible. Rather than receiving a simple explanation, I felt I was being lectured. In addition, staff training discussions were conducted during my check-in process, which made the interaction feel impersonal and unnecessarily prolonged. A historic building and beautiful renovation may help create the image of a luxury hotel, but the reputation of a five-star property ultimately depends on the quality of its service. Unfortunately, the service I experienced did not reflect that standard. Despite these issues, I treated the staff with respect throughout my stay and left a gratuity upon departure. I hope management will take guest feedback seriously and reflect on how all guests are welcomed and treated, regardless of their background.

Disappointed in Portugal due to inattentive and unaccommodating staff.

Liked:Room was spacious.

Disliked:The hotel was not accommodating nor attentive. We had to request toilet paper and towels on a regular basis. Getting a drink pool side was a project. While I requested an early check-in 6 months in advance given we came from U.S., this did not happen. In addition, after staying 8 nights, we were never treated well by staff.

Beautiful hotel to stay in full of history on a very pretty street.

Liked:Location is great. There are restaurants and cafes within walking distance. There is a Pingo Doce supermarket and chemist. Lovely little area by the hotel. Our room was large with plenty of room for two adults and one child and a very good balcony with amazing views. The bathroom had everything and a nice big bath. Big comfy bed. Nice indoor pool, sauna and steam room. Nice outside grounds. Breakfast was pleasant and a good selection. Free underground parking with electric charging points.

Disliked:Although the location of the hotel is great along a pretty street with beautiful buildings, one road down is a very busy road not nice to walk along. There was no kettle in the room, I had to go to reception and carry a mug of hot water up to the room which is up two lifts, it would be nice to sit on the balcony in the mornings and evenings and have a cup of tea but not the end of the world. They play music quite loud in the hallways which is slightly odd. It seems to turn off around 9pm.
