A perfect stay to really be in the heart of NOTL, but feel pampered and relaxed, too

Liked:What an absolute perfect location for a stay at Niagara On The Lake! This hotel is right on the main street, Queen, making it superbly easy to step out and be in the middle of things. There are two buildings - the main hotel, which has a spa, restaurant, Zen garden, Starbucks - and an outpost building, the first floor of which is for weddings and events and the second floor has 9 rooms. We were in the outpost building, and while the main building has free interior garage parking, the outpost does have a few parking spots outside of it. You do have to walk a flight of stairs, but they'll help you with your luggage. The staff is exceptional! The spa is amazing, and you won't know until you check in that there is a great Wellness Wednesday special where you can do an incredible sound bath (ANITA! You're an angel) and the hydrotherapy circuit, which is so relaxing and fun (the snow room!). We stayed here for two nights and at Pillar and Post for two nights, and while that hotel was nice - a different vibe - I would have chosen to remain at 124 on Queen if I knew better.

Great location and restaurant, mediocre service

Liked:I have mixed comments about the property. First the pros: it is conveniently located on Queen Street, which is the main drag in the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. There are shops, restaurants, souvenir places, ice cream emporiums (try Cows) a few blocks away. Typical touristy stuff. Flowers and plants are everywhere. The property is only a 10 minute walk to the Shaw Festival Theatre where we saw 2 shows. The property is very close to Simcoe Park and the shores of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. The old courthouse is nearby. You can take a walking tour of the town that starts at the courthouse. Treadwell Restaurant is attached to 124 Queen. We had excellent breakfasts there each morning of our stay. Suggest you purchase the breakfast package as part of your accommodation. The server at Treadwell, Izak, was efficient and friendly. The breakfasts were the highlight of our stay. The Cons: upon arrival after a long flight and drive from the US, we went to the front desk to check in. A woman was on the phone for about 5 minutes. She did not look at us or acknowledge our presence. Finally a second woman arrived and checked us in. Our rooms were 407 and 408, not in the main building. The rooms were Deluxe King. IMO they were not Deluxe or King. The bathrooms were small - one sink, and an ordinary shower. Our room, 408, had only one bedside lamp, so it was difficult to read if you were not on that side of the bed. Although the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable, the furnishings seemed old. There are no ice machines in the building, to my knowledge. To get ice, I had to call the front desk, or go to the front desk. Often, after calling the front desk, no one answered. Really? I made several trips to the front desk (in the main building, meaning you must walk outside on the sidewalk to get there) just to get ice. We also had problems getting the property to adjust our bill. We were erroneously charged over $100 Canadian for drinks / meals we did not have in the lounge. It took several emails, texts, and phone calls to get the bill fixed. For our 3 night stay, we paid $3955.00 Canadian. For that amount, I expect premium service. Did not get it. If I were to return to Niagara-on-the-Lake, I would stay elsewhere.
