Charm has left

Liked:We have stayed here many times in 15 years. We love the location. I was very disappointed with the modern "updates". It was so nice before. Why would you take an old charming, classic & update it with cheap furniture? I would have put more time & money into improving the courtyard. How about some flowers? 3 days and no maid service. I don't care, but how about more than 2 bath towels? Sorry, sad but true

Was My Room Haunted? Or My Mind Playing Tricks?

Liked:For the rate it charged, I would have expected more. If the rate was lower, I wouldn't mind giving it a higher rating. No proper check-in area. No proper luggage storage area. The room was basic. With basic amenities. Not even a toothbrush and toothpaste. No kettle. Not even a chair or small sofa to sit in the room except the bed. The AC was not working properly. I even think that my room was haunted as the lights switched off by itself twice, and tv was on one time by itself when I was in the toilet. I told the receptionist about it.

No A/C, yes, I had my very own spirit

Liked:Stairs to 2nd floor were dangerous. A/C didn't work til 4th day. Yes "maint. guy" came a lot. The courtyard was a cool place to hang out for the 12 of us. My room had a spirit. She yelled my name loudly. Sat up and saw her. Few other spirit happening

Not ideal for first time visitors

Liked:This historic lodging is not for everyone. The location is not the best for first-time NOLA visitors, it is not near restaurants, transportation, or attractions, but is located in the residential heart of the quarter. It most certainly is not good for anyone with a handicap, the narrow walkways, stairs, and tight inner courtyard is a challenge for anyone with a challenge. Wheelchairs would never fit. I also felt that in an emergency, exiting the hotel area could be a problem: there is only one way out, and if it would be blocked...you would be trapped. As for the rooms, they are very attractive and have an historic feel. The bathroom lacks some privacy. There is no chair in the room, so if you want to eat something it is either sit on the bed or go outside to the patio area. Finding a breakfast spot was a problem, since many restaurants that said they were open were not open until 11 am. Experienced NOLA visitors can handle this, but first timers may be frustrated. If you know your way around, and want to experience an authentic historical hotel, this could be worth a visit, but if you are seeking convenience, consider finding a spot closer to Canal St. or that side of the Quarter.
