A dismal stay

Liked:I stayed in three hotels in India, including three nights in this one. Booked the Royal Plaza because it is in a good location but was cheaper than most of the other hotels in the area. I think this is because it is a somewhat worn out place with small shabby bedrooms, disinterested staff and where everything - from getting on the wifi to trying to catch the attention of a waiter - is difficult. Wish I had paid a little more and stayed somewhere a little more pleasant.

It's centrally located, and that's the only good thing about it.

Liked:It's central and that's the only good thing about this property.

Disliked:It's an old hotel, rooms are a bit creaky, carpets are smelly, and food is below average. The staff are not friendly. You will forever call housekeeping, but they won't even pick up. I can still go on with these complaints.

Great location, understaffed

Liked:Very opulent, over the top marble decor like an Italian Renaissance villa. Nice garden and pool. Sunday nights, there are a lot of 20-something Delhi-ites partying in the pub. Great, central location for tourists, near Connaught Place and all the museums & monuments. You can even walk to some places like Delhi Art Gallery, or try many restaurants in the area or hotels in the zone. It’s a pretty part of the city, with lots of trees and gardens. The gym is huge and has a lot of exercise machines. Breakfast buffet has the usual Indian & Western choices. This place is understaffed. The service was very slow. The WiFi was slow. The room key cards never worked. Then there is no phone in the hallway to call down to the desk. They were confused about laundry pickup or drop off. The room bill was pre-paid, but not showing on the computer, so I had to open my laptop bank account at check out. India used to be overstaffed. Now everywhere is understaffed. The salon was confused about how to book a hair cut. Only one stall was working in the lobby bathroom. Kept giving me towels with stains, that I have to replace. The staff was nice. The hotel taxi driver was really nice. He took my mom shopping in the morning. Then took us to the Red Fort Sound & Light show. He pushed my mom’s wheelchair the whole way, 20 min there and 20 min back. Just a gem. Connaught Place restaurants with clean bathrooms: Haldiram’s indoor chaat CP Social: DJ dancing and brunch, snacks Warehouse: hookah, food, and live music Sandoz: Indian bistro - good lemon soup Minar: biryani, mutton, Kababs, etc Dasaprakash: South Indian Naturals: ice cream Salon: Affinity

Valur For Money Star Hotel in the heart of Delhi

Liked:Well priced and in the heart of the city.

Disliked:I was not offered the BOOKING.COM discounts on F&B as per my booking confirmation. Even after asking them.
