Budget alternative in a pricey region

Liked:A couple of basic bungalows right off Moorea's ring road. Two bedrooms, kitchen, washing machine, wifi, TV. Beach access across the road. Good, affordable Franco/Chinese/pizza restaurants ~5 km up the road: La Cantine is open for lunch and diiner. Chez Tama Hau is a local institution with live music on weekends and grab-&-go casse-croûte breakfast sandwiches. Tiki Village (a re-creation with folkloric performances) is even closer. Owner was flexible about arrival time – WhatsApp him in advance and ask about credit-card vs. cash payment.

Disliked:Sleep and access. We heard road noise at most hours (motorcycles). On one windy night, we were awakened by adjacent banana trees pounding against the house. Getting a car in (or out) requires manually unlocking and locking a large gate, and awkwardly turning around in a grass parking space sized for one car but allocated to two or three.

Liked:The Host!!!

Disliked:Unlocking the gate to get in and out......BUT.... that was one of the features that made the place perfect! So it really wansnt a dislike...... it was just lazy!

A nice bungalow, with a very responsive and helpful host.

Liked:The sitting area had comfortable couches, and the kitchen had most of what we needed. The beach is just across the street, and the lush landscaping is nice. There’s a nice coveted front patio with eating table. We appreciated the clothes washing machine.

Disliked:We expected both bedrooms to be air-conditioned and the second one was not. It cooled off some in the evening and with the fan blowing all night sleep was possible, but it was less than ideal.
