A historical location with sprawling grounds and beautiful buildings; great for families

Liked:This was the final, and eighth, hospitality spot for us on a two-week intergenerational family trip. We stayed in three separate units. There is a large primary facility on one side of the street, housing rooms, both restaurants (fancy and beer garden) amidst an incredible sprawling garden ground and playground. The playground is like a tropical-themed paradise for kids complete with zipline, trampolines, seesaws, a wading pool with a waterfall, and picnic tables. Expect sand and bring towels! Also, there are a lot of wasps - harmless but annoying. Across the street are three separate buildings, palatial cottages, which house multiple guest rooms. We had two units next to one another in the first unit - and they were beautiful with ample space. The hallways were well lit, signed, and clean. The second unit, where we were moved to when we requested our third room not be in the main house across the street, was smaller and less impressive. One window was screwed shut, and it was missing some basic hygiene amenities, but we were fine. The history of the place, the natural gardens and grounds surrounding it, and our shear exhaustion made this suitable for our needs while being a memorable last stop.

Disliked:Wasps at the beer garden were annoying, and the staff were a little slow to help us. Instructions were a bit confusing and there was no signage on the buildings to help us know where to be or what to do. It seemed a little like you had to be a local to navigate. We took a while figuring out that our third unit was on the second floor and we were in the correct building because no doors had signs on them in the second cottage.

If you like the non-tourist type hotels and want a real German experience, you need to stay here!

Liked:Having stayed here recently, I was very pleased to stay in the older building across the way. Not that the main hotel was not superb, but staying in old buildings has a completely different feel, especially one of this caliber. The best part of this hidden gem is that it is a short drive from Frankfurt Airport and yet away from the crowds and parking issues for those, like me, that prefer a rental car to travel around Germany. The breakfast is extensive and the lady who runs it is very gracious and engaging. The restaurant and Biergarten are fantastic. I ate in the Biergarten this time and enjoyed the Chicken schnitzel. I requested the addition of the Frankfurter Gruene sauce as it is one of my regional favorites and it was a perfect addition. Although a bit picky and hard to please typically, I found this place to be very warm and inviting. In 6 months I have stayed two different times and if it means anything, plan to stay again during my next visit to Frankfurt.
