Beautiful, peaceful resort with room for improvement

Liked:My wife and I stayed at the Plaza Hotel to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Our Royal Apartment was spacious and located in a quiet, peaceful area toward the back of the resort. We enjoyed having a pool and bar nearby, and the staff in that area were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We spent most of our time there and found the bar-food menu satisfying. Breakfast was also good, and the in-room safe gave us a secure place to store our valuables.

Disliked:The apartment was about a seven- to eight-minute walk from the front of the resort. Although we were driven there by cart upon arrival, the driver dropped us off without helping with our luggage. Our experience at the Palm Bar was disappointing. As African American guests, my wife and I repeatedly felt overlooked. Staff asked us to wait while serving other guests who arrived after us. We had to speak up several times to receive service, which made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. We also experienced a concerning security incident when someone attempted to enter our apartment while we were inside. Management said they would investigate but did not follow up as promised. We were later told that we may have left the door unlocked and that the wind possibly blew it open. That explanation was not convincing, especially because our key cards stopped working afterward and the door had to be reprogrammed. The Wi-Fi was very weak near our apartment and worked best at the front of the resort. Some of the furniture also had stains and needed deeper cleaning. Breakfast became repetitive, while dinner had limited variety, with too much meat and too few side dishes. Overall, I would give the Plaza Hotel 3 out of 5 stars. The peaceful setting, Royal Apartment area, and friendly staff near the back pool were highlights, but the resort has considerable room for improvement in customer service, security, cleanliness, Wi-Fi, and dining options.

Liked:The property has a mixed outlook given it’s currently under construction. The front desk, pool, dinning area all look very aesthetically pleasing. The food staff at the buffet and by the pool side were excellent. Lastly being located within 10 minutes from the anyways convenient.

Disliked:The property failed to give us the luxury experience that it showcases on its videos and other social media platform. The front desk was not welcoming, rather felt very transactional. Every time we asked for something, they needed to ask for their manager- as if people in the front didn’t have any authority to make decisions. The resort boasts great amenities but doesn’t have enough kid activities to keep the young ones engaged throughout the day. They failed to accommodate a family with expecting mother and toddler to a preferred room, they insisted we pay more- whereas other resorts have found ways to put families first and truly treat them as guests. The all inclusive room experience was an empty fridge, no iron, hair drying that didn’t work and the door to the balcony that wouldn’t close properly. The worst part, they failed to inform us that the all inclusive experience also includes heavy machinery pounding on concrete outside your door- imagine the struggle for sleeping babies in the room. During check out- front desk associate didn’t even bother asking about how our stay was, clearly showed they didn’t value us as guests. Despite spending all this money on constructing new rooms and amenities, it’s the people that make the difference and provide the experience for a relaxing stay. The wait staff at the pool bar and the restaurant were attentive but the front desk staff made the experience somewhat sour.
