Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this place.

Liked:The location is good and convenient for exploring the area, but that is about the only genuinely positive thing we can say about our stay. Despite the potential of the apartment, its current condition is disappointing and, in several areas, simply unacceptable.

Disliked:The apartment was dirty and poorly maintained when we arrived. We found cobwebs throughout the property, clumps of hair in the bedroom, cockroaches in the bathroom and, worst of all, a dead mice in the kitchen and a living one in the living room. Considering that guests are charged a $250 cleaning fee, we seriously question what this fee is actually being used for. As mentioned in other reviews, the apartment also seems to serve partly as a storage space for unused furniture and miscellaneous items, which makes the whole place feel cluttered and neglected rather than like a properly maintained vacation rental. There were numerous maintenance issues as well. The electronic door lock did not work because its cover was broken, the inside door closer kept falling off, electricity on the entrance side of the apartment was not working, and the main living-room lighting was affected. Electrical cables were hanging exposed from the ceiling. In the bathroom, the shower connection was leaking badly enough to spray water across the room. The outside area was equally neglected, with old, mouldy and decaying leaves and debris everywhere. The outside trash bin was completely overflowing when we arrived. Gas bottle on the BBQ was empty and it is expected for you to top it up in order to use it. Another rather strange detail: the mailbox was overflowing with IRS letters. We documented the condition of the property with photos when we arrived and contacted the host directly rather than immediately leaving a negative review. Unfortunately, the communication largely felt like dealing with an automated chatbot, and we did not feel that our concerns were addressed in a constructive or appropriate way. We genuinely tried to make the best of our stay, but there is only so much guests can compensate for themselves. With proper professional cleaning, repairs, electrical work and some investment, this could potentially become a nice apartment because the location itself is good.

Good stay, conviebienrly close to the PATH.

Liked:The property was a great size for a small family of four, it says it fits 6 but more than two adults n two children and you’d struggle as there is a lot of furniture. Good kitchen and bathroom, bed was comfortable enough. The location is fantastic, a five minute easy walk from the local PATH station!

Disliked:The back door doesn’t really lock and it’s attached to the bathroom, I mentioned this to the owner but it took them until my last day to provide me with contact details to send images through of the issues and it felt like a security risk. Other than that I had no real complaints, however I do think you are paying that price for location only.

Great location but apartment could be better

Liked:Fantastic location, great neighborhood, lots of nearby restaurants and just five min walk to Grove Street Path station. Just two stops to Manhattan. Also loved seeing the skyline at the docks at the end of the street. Kitchen sink and countertops were nice, and shower was fine. Double bed was comfortable, and apartment was clean when we arrived. Decor was cute. Odd layout due to the age of the place didn't bother us -- interesting history to the building!

Disliked:As others have noted, this place is crammed with furniture, almost like it's a repository for the owner. Would have been nice to have shelving in the dining area for pantry items and dishes (instead they were just stacked on a random table), and drawers for clothing in the bedroom. Kids complained the bunk beds weren't very comfortable. Bathroom has a musty smell, and we had nowhere to put stuff while showering. Back garden was overgrown a bit, but it rained almost our entire trip, so I didn't use it much. Electronic lock was a bit finicky/difficult to figure out, so we ended up using the back up key. Also a note on parking -- I picked this listing because it advertised "free street parking" but this apparently came with a big caveat -- only 2 hours at a time unless you have a sticker. We ended up parking at the Newport Mall garage, which was fine, but $$. I think we would have been able to apply for a visitors pass to park on the street if I'd known ahead of time, but I was only informed about the details days before our trip. So something to note if you are bringing a car.
