Liked:Superlative in every way, this is a magical place. From the shady verandahs to the ample rooms, Jardim dos Aloés is like stepping into a work of art - reminiscent of Bertolucci or Lampedusa. The breakfasts, with home made breads, jams and marmalades, are delightful. All practicalities are attended to, and the staff are friendly and efficient. Bruno is an amiable, fascinating and informative host. The Ilha is walkable and rich in history. The museum is in essence the Portuguese governor of Mozambique's palace, preserved almost unchanged since the 18th Century or before and, in itself, worth the trip.
