Girls Getaway Gone Bad

Liked:Recently, four girlfriends and I visited Grandover Resort for a staycation as a belated Mother’s Day celebration—our first trip away from our babies. We were looking forward to a relaxing day of spa services, dinner, and drinks at the resort. The front desk and concierge staff were wonderful and welcoming. Unfortunately, our experience at the spa left us disappointed. A couple of the mothers in our group needed to pump before their massages. As first-time moms navigating this situation away from our babies, we were unaware that we could request a private room and instead used a corner of the locker room. The spa manager approached us, stating that she had received multiple complaints. While she was polite, the situation could have been handled with more sensitivity and discretion, given the circumstances. After that interaction, we felt uncomfortable and self-conscious, and it seemed as though the staff were repeatedly checking on us, which made the remainder of our spa experience awkward. My massage therapist was kind, but the service felt inexperienced at times. Several moments felt uncomfortable, including awkward positioning (on his knees during the massage, whispering in my ear, towel placement on my buttocks/back), accidentally turning off the lights during the massage, and extended periods where he stepped away without explanation. We did enjoy lunch at the café; however, after reviewing my credit card statement, I discovered that I had been charged twice for the meal. Lastly, our dining experience was also disappointing. When we called to make reservations, we were told the restaurant was completely booked for the evening and were only able to secure an 8:00 PM reservation. However, when we arrived, the restaurant appeared to be only about 25% full. Service was extremely slow; over the course of a two-and-a-half-hour dinner, we saw our waitress only a handful of times, and there were long waits for both drinks and food. It’s possible the restaurant was short-staffed, but the overall experience did not reflect the level of service we expected from a resort of this caliber. While there were certainly some positive aspects to our visit, these issues ultimately overshadowed what was meant to be a special and relaxing getaway. Unfortunately, because of this experience, we do not plan to return. I recommend just spending the money at the Omni Grove Park Inn instead or going to a local spa instead!
