Liked:Being close to town and seeing the creek.

Disliked:Mold, cigarette buts on the stairwells.I became sick during the stay. One night it rained very hard and there was a leak by the fireplace. The next day I took pictures and there seemed to be mold on the ceiling and around the area. The staff wasn't putting anyone in the rooms around us. I am wondering since they were remodeling if the room wasn't even complete. I was not aware I would not receive points for choice hotels booking this way.

Just don't do it!

Liked:This was, by far, the nastiest hotel I have ever had the displeasure of staying in. Given its prime location just off the Gatlinburg downtown strip and directly beside the Convention Center, you would think this hotel would take pride in its property and recognize the opportunity to set the standard for the area. Unfortunately, the only standard it sets is an example of what not to do. When we first arrived, the location itself appeared promising, with a beautiful creek running through the property. Unfortunately, looking toward the lobby, breakfast area, and check-in building quickly changed that impression. The building was visibly neglected, with roof shingles missing from approximately half of the structure. I will give credit where it is due—the gentleman who checked us in was extremely friendly and helpful. Our traveling companions had a dog, so we chose a room near the pool and close to one of the pet-friendly rooms. The pool was filled with leaves and appeared as though it had not been properly cleaned or vacuumed in quite some time. When we opened the door to our first room, things went downhill quickly. The room reeked of mold and mildew. It was a very large room, and it appeared that attempts had been made to cover up visible signs of mold, but the smell told a very different story. We were moved to a second room in a building farther up the hill. This happened after our first bear encounter while changing rooms. To be clear, the bears were absolutely not the hotel's fault—we were visiting in their home, after all. We had several bear encounters during our stay, which was actually one of the more memorable parts of the trip. Room #2 was certainly not pleasant, but at that point it was 10:30 p.m., and we were willing to tolerate it for the two nights we had left. The room still smelled, had visible signs of mold, appeared not to have been swept recently, and the curtains were literally falling down. Thankfully, the bed at least appeared clean and did not look like it was going to send us home with unwanted souvenirs. Our traveling companions were not nearly as fortunate. They went through rooms #3 and #4 before finally finding one they could tolerate around 2:30 a.m. At that point, we decided the hotel would be used for one purpose only: showering and sleeping. The following morning, which thankfully was checkout day, my partner attempted to find something to eat for breakfast but ultimately settled for a prepackaged muffin—which was probably the safest choice. When we went to check out and requested a receipt for our extremely overpriced stay, we were told one could not be provided at that time. I am honestly appalled that this hotel is still operating in its current condition. I am equally disappointed that Quality Inn and Choice Hotels would allow their names to be associated with a property in this state. The hotel is visibly neglected, the mold and mildew are concerning, and the overall condition of the property is unacceptable. This location has tremendous potential, but it needs a complete overhaul—from the ground up. In my opinion, the property needs to be gutted and completely renovated, or replaced altogether by a responsible hospitality company that will take advantage of this prime location and provide guests with the quality lodging they deserve.
