Friendly Service, Outdated Rooms

Liked:We stayed at Residence Inn by Marriott Costa Mesa Newport Beach for 2 nights. I was a little bummed not to get a complimentary upgrade for being bonvoy gold elite, since that’s usually something we get during our stays. The bigger issue was the condition of the rooms—they felt very outdated, had a noticeable old smell, and honestly didn’t reflect the level of quality we usually expect from a Marriott property. Our first room (723) had a really unpleasant issue—the sofa bed mattress was badly stained. It was pretty gross, especially since my daughters were supposed to sleep on it. I called the front desk and Sam helped us switch rooms right away, which I appreciated. The new room didn’t have the stained mattress, but overall it was still about the same in terms of condition. The best part of the stay was definitely the staff and the breakfast. Sam at the front desk was friendly and gave us some great recommendations for nearby beaches. The breakfast staff were also wonderful—especially the woman cooking and cleaning tables. She was always so kind and greeted us every morning. Also, I wanted to give them credit for letting us know we accidentally left a few items behind. We received a text message from Marriott. They gave us the option to have everything mailed back (for a fee), which we appreciated. It was nice that they were proactive and made the effort to contact us. My family and I come to Newport Beach a couple times a year for a quick getaway, and we usually stick with Marriott properties if we don’t book an Airbnb. This hotel is not staying on our list of “will return”…Unfortunately, this stay just didn’t meet the standards we’ve come to expect from Marriott, and the property is clearly in need of renovations.

Went above and beyond

Liked:Stayed at property to get a break from cold Utah weather and hit the beach & Disneyland. This hotel was a great location to get to both of those! Karissa checked me in and helped me with all my questions (there were many) and 3 days later remembered I wanted to see a concert and gave me new info so I could go! I was so appreciative of all her help it truly made my stay more memorable! I will be back
