Smart, clean and quiet — excellent value for Berlin

Liked:We really enjoyed our stay! We came to Berlin for an exam, so we were looking for something reasonably priced, well connected to the city centre, but at the same time quiet enough to get a proper night’s sleep — and this apartment met all of those expectations. The apartment is not very large, but the space is used incredibly well. Everything feels thoughtfully designed and functional, and we never had the feeling of being squeezed into a tiny room. Nothing seems wasted. Everything was also exceptionally clean and felt good quality, including the kitchenware, dishes and other small details. We didn’t actually get a chance to cook as we arrived around 9 pm and left early the next morning, but the kitchen seemed very well equipped for a longer stay. Overall, excellent value for money and genuinely one of the best places we’ve stayed in Germany so far. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Disliked:There was very little we didn’t like. The mattress was a little too soft for us personally, but we are used to sleeping on very firm mattresses, so this is definitely a matter of personal preference. The only other point is the ventilation. There is ventilation, but it felt quite mild, and there doesn’t seem to be air conditioning. We slept with the windows open, which worked perfectly well for us in September, but I can imagine the apartment getting quite warm during hot summer days. In colder weather, keeping the windows open throughout the night obviously wouldn’t be as comfortable. Neither of these points affected our overall very positive impression of the apartment.

Liked:I did not expect much actually and was very pleasantly surprised by all the amenities. Impeccably clean, large room (granted, we had the largest apartment), complimentary transfer from the airport.

Disliked:The hotel is not centrally located of course, but the train station is just a one minute walk and then there is a direct line S3, and in under 20 minutes you are downtown.

Nice find on outskirts of Berlin

Liked:The location to public transportation is great. The condition of the bathroom and kitchen is great. The basic furniture is fine barring the material covering the bed's backboard and the seat cushions. The color scheme of the rooms are nice and allow in a lot of natural light. Nice kitchen set-up and proximity to supermarket (that is closed on Sundays, holidays and late nights).

Disliked:Not a reflection of the housekeeping team which seems to do a nice job. The real negative of the furniture situation is that the Smartment company decided to use cloth material on the bed headboard and seat cushions that are WITHOUT A DOUBT NOT WASHED BETWEEN GUEST STAYS so you can see the buildup of grime that has accumulated on the bed backboard cushions and other seat cushions. The bed headboard stains are gross. Additionally, over the multiple visits that I had to this location, I witnessed multiple guests experiencing some kind of difficulty accessing their room which is not confidence building. I also had my own experience with a rude "customer service" person who was not at the location but was tasked with corresponding with guest queries. This particularly unhelpful hotel agent - who definitely needs customer service training - told me that "[Smartments Karlshorts) is not a hotel but an apartment" and that I shouldn't expect customer service as in a hotel. Smartments seems to have no problem problem accepting money as a hotel would as well as listing on hotel booking sites so.. maybe the agent needs to reconsider.

Really liked the room I stayed in. The noisiness was the only downside. But would stay there again!

Liked:Good location, easily accessible by train. Easy check in process. Loved the room: it was spacious, bright and clean.

Disliked:Since to location is so great (next to a station), it was pretty noisy. The room was very hot for some reason (even though it wasn't very warm outside), so I had to keep the windows open, which made it even noisier :D there's a lot of traffic in front of the house. Didn't see any staff downstairs to ask why it's so hot in my room.
