Funky (Smelling) Hot Adina - It’s a No For Me, Dawg…

Liked:Very friendly staff especially Johanna, and one other gal (with the red hair) who’s name we unfortunately did not get. But they were very nice. Great proximity to Checkpoint Charlie (it’s in the name after all, right?) - but it really was close to that and many other Berlin landmarks. Good but repetitive breakfast. Seems like all the hotels serve the same stuff and even have the same coffee or juice dispensers. And seriously - watch the rocks in the scrambled eggs. The rocks are apparently for the hard boiled eggs but were used for the scrambled eggs. Oops. At least rinse the pan out. Nice, refreshing pool that was great for dealing with the heat. Nice courtyard with lots of seating & hammocks. We got the larger one bedroom apartment so we were able to do laundry. Of the Adina’s we’ve stayed at this trip (there have been multiple ones), this one had the best shower pressure and hot water. Underground parking was convenient. But that’s where the good stuff ends…

Disliked:Where do I start? Yes there was some good parts about the hotel but this was not overall a good stay. Germany and pretty much all of Europe suffered a massive heat wave during our stay. Of course I would not blame the hotel for that but the situation could have been dealt with better, not just by the poor folks working hard and doing their best to help the guests but by Adina itself who should have swept in and dealt with the situation or provided their staff the means to do so quickly besides letting us take free waters from the little store. This was appreciated but again, not enough. We were told the A/C was fully functional but just not getting to us because it was overloaded since every one else was using it. I’m not buying that. We turned on the air - could not hear or feel a thing and again, if it worked, you’d hear or feel something even if it wasn’t much. But nothing. Three days in a sweat box. We’d go from scalding heat outside to hot & stuffy inside. There didn’t seem to be any A/C in the public areas to try and get some reprieve either. We asked for fans and were told there weren’t any left and someone on the staff was out trying to buy them. I even tried to order a fan or a mini AC on Amazon but it would not have arrived until after the stay. The hallway that led to our room (007 on the ground floor) was somewhat cooler making us wonder if we could just stay there despite the dirty carpet. The carpet in the room was dirty & old throughout, and there was mold & mildew in the shower area. The microwave was dirty also. Again it was great to have a washer/dryer but it was difficult to use due to the placement of the unit in the bathroom with a door which could not be fully opened because of the toilet. Evidently they only clean the rooms every three days.

No AC, no solution by hospitality team. No apologies.

Liked:We were a party of five and rented a two-bedroom apartment (Room 111) for our stay from June 25–27. We specifically chose this hotel because it advertises air-conditioned apartments, but the air conditioning in our room was not working at all. The apartment felt like a furnace, making it unbearably hot. We stayed for two nights and barely slept because of the excessive heat. When we reported the problem, the only solution offered was a single fan, which was unstable on its stand and completely inadequate for cooling a large two-bedroom apartment occupied by five people. We traveled all the way from the USA and spent a significant amount of money to visit Berlin, looking forward to this vacation. Instead of enjoying our time, we were exhausted from two sleepless nights. It completely ruined our stay in Berlin and put a damper on what should have been a memorable vacation. For the price charged for this apartment, I expected basic comfort. A functioning air conditioning system is not a luxury—it’s a necessity, especially when the hotel advertises that the rooms are air-conditioned. If the air conditioning is not working, guests should be informed before arrival or offered another room. Unfortunately, the poor handling of this issue and the lack of a meaningful solution made this one of the most disappointing hotel stays we’ve experienced. I cannot recommend this property and would not stay here again.
