Beautiful property, short on amenities, not a great guest experience

Liked:The hotel was beautiful. Excellent decor, clever, artistic touches, great beds and pillows, a beautiful shower, nice thick, solid doors and triple glazed windows to keep the room quiet. Restaurant staff were genuine, thoughtful and accommodating.
Disliked:Check-in took about an hour. Not sure why there was only one heroic woman manning the desk and trying to provide a high-touch experience while all the guests stood in line and waited. We needed a special room. Our check-in person could not find the room on her computer. Her boss, who could do this, promised to look up where we could be placed, and then began doing other, clearly far more important things. She then disappeared for about 15 minutes. We only finally got checked in when we complained about the wait. I’m not sure if we were put to one side because my granddaughter was with us in her thrift store clothes or because our suitcases were old and beat up. I’d hate to think that was the case, but I’ve had better experiences checking into a Red Roof Inn. Parking is not free. Breakfast is not free. There is a mysterious drawer that looks refrigerated, but is not – so be careful putting anything in there. No microwave in the room, either, which is odd since you have to supply your own breakfast unless you want to pay for it.
